Hyperbolic Horn Helical Mass Spectrometer (3HMS)
#7,388,196 awarded 6/17/08 - A novel ion mass filter utilizing a rotating electrical RF field to force ions into a
helical trajectory. Impact radius is a function of mass. The 2D target allows for simultaneous spectral detection.
For wider band operation the RF frequency can be swept. A horn-shaped entrance field solves the problem of limited
entrance angle and increases sensitivity by a hundredfold.
Method and Apparatus for Measuring Illumination Uniformity of a Liquid Crystal Light Valve Projector
#5,793,441 awarded 8/11/98 - Design of an automatic system for correcting illumination nonuniformities found in
liquid crystal projection devices. A CCD camera provides visual feedback for control of variable gain and offset
amplifiers in the video signal chain using special software algorithms.
Bias Drive and Noise Reduction in Image Projectors
#5,471,255 awarded 11/28/95 - Circuit and method for reducing the image noise caused by ILA bias waveforms. Patent
describes use of a frequency synthesizer to lock the ac waveform to the vertical sync of the incoming video signal
thereby removing asynchronous harmonic beat patterns. Also covers a technique for generating an optimized waveshape
by applying an ILA equivalent circuit in a feedback network.
Dynamic Gamma Correction Circuit for use in Image Projectors
#5,461,430 awarded 10/24/95 - Circuit and method for compensating the non-linear grey scale of a CRT-ILA based
projection display. Circuit has an inverse non-linear gain characteristic that corrects the total system to a
television equivalent. Patent also describes a method for dynamically changing the gain characteristic to compensate
for ILA variations.
